Starred Saturdays: week of June 27

Z and I are busy getting stocked up and ready for the 4th!  Because of the long Seattle daylight in the summer, we usually don't get to start fireworks until about 9:30 or 10pm.  Since it's a long wait, we decided to get tickets for the Cirque du Soleil KOOZA show that is in town.  That should be exciting and a nice way to pass some of the day before we have some fun with fireworks.  Z has been asking daily for fireworks and it's been hard to convince him to wait when we have neighbors that are already setting some off!

It seems Z isn't the only one obsessed with fireworks.  Here are 53 Awesome Fireworks from worldwide displays.  (via Flavorwire)

Need an original bookshelf idea?  How about the "not a book" floating shelf? (via OUP blog)

Have you ever seen upside-down houses?

Pop Candy guest blogger Bobby Harrell talks about life as a bookmobile librarian.

There is something seriously wrong with this woman.  She dumps condiments in library book slots. (via Algonquin Books blog)

And you know I can't resist lightning photos.  How about this one where lightning struck three Chicago skyscrapers at the same time?  Craig Shimala took video of the shocking incident. (via io9)

Lighting up the night,

  1. She's wanted for a "yearlong spree of condiment-related crimes" - maybe she bought some of those huge condiment bottles from Sam's, and when she looked at them, she realized she was going to die before she ran out of mustard or mayonnaise. And her spree of condiment crimes is her way of raging against the dying of the light.
