A Re-Read List

I felt the need to write a list right now and the first thing that came to mind was this --

Ten Books That I Want to Re-Read Right Now

The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
The House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones
Armadale by Wilkie Collins
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
The Mysterious Mr. Quin by Agatha Christie
The Black Tower by Louis Bayard
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
the entire Thursday Next series beginning with The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

I've been focusing so much lately on my TBR but I don't want to forget about all of the wonderful books I have available to revisit! I'm choosing books for my upcoming flights and now I think I will include one re-read in them.

What book(s) are you wanting to re-read right now?

Getting my money's worth out of my books,
K

  1. Your first two are on my re-read list for this year, too! The Ground Beneath Her Feet because it's been several years since I read it, Jonathan Strange because I've only read the first book in the series, which I'll need to re-read before I can finish the other two books, which are on my TBR shelf.

Other books on my re-read list for this year are The Hobbit (finished it a few weeks ago), A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainiain, Lady Chatterley's Lover and 1984. But I have so many books on my TBR shelf I doubt I'll get round to reading all of them.

  2. I need to re-read Love in the Time of Cholera for a book group discussion. It's been so long since I read it I think it will almost be like reading it for the first time. Another book I really want to reread it Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham. It's one of the first classics I really liked. I read it in college and I really want to reread it since I hardly remember it.

  3. Jenny and I are planning to reread Stephen King's Dark Tower books this year, and I'm excited about that. I'm also considering rereading Sea of Poppies by Amitov Ghosh before the next book comes out this fall. These days I also always seem to be craving a Thomas Hardy rereading, anything but Jude and Tess, both of which I've reread in the last few years.

  4. I've got Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke on my to-be-re-read pile too. Also Mansfield Park which I have only read once and then when I was about 17. I am sure I will find it a very different book now, 20 years on.

  5. Oh, I'm rereading The Ground Beneath Her Feet now, and I just got my mother to send me Jonathan Strange so I can reread that too! Rereads are wonderful!

  6. I know exactly what you mean. I've been thinking lately about the book I want to re-read and that the pressure of the TBR.

Isn't there a reading challenge out there on this? I might need one if I ever want to get around to actually do it.

  8. Interesting list...I couldn't even finish Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and here you want to reread it! I want to reread David Copperfield as well. I've read 3-4 times, but not in the past 20 years :)

I'm currently rereading the Little House series, London by Edward Rutherford, and will soon (this fall?) reread Middlemarch on my march through Eliot.

On my TBR-soon list is a reread of The Years with Ross, by James Thurber, about the early days of the New Yorker magazine. It is wonderful--I read it 2-3 times in high school, but not since then.

  9. Tracy - Yes, the TBR shelf is always in the way of a good re-read! I'm taking care of some commitments right now and then I'll hopefully spend some of the summer in re-reads.

Karen - There are so many books that I read in school that I would like to re-read. I suspect that I disliked many of them simply because I was "forced" to read them.

Teresa - I love when you get that re-read craving!

Jux - I would like to re-read Mansfield Park too. I recall really liking it but so many other readers complain about it.

Jenny - Yay! Good choices! ;)

Alexandra - There was a re-read challenge last year but I think it didn't get much traction. Re-reads are a tough thing for book bloggers apparently!

Jenners - It must be good then!

Jane - I think I might have read David Copperfield about 4 or 5 years ago. I can't go much longer than that because I love it so! And I would enjoy a Middlemarch re-read too!

  11. Mansfield Park is my favourite Austen novel and I've read it 3 or 4 times. It covers a much broader range - including two very attractive anti-hero/ines, we actually get to see life in the lower-middle classes when Fanny Price is forced to go and stay with her family in Portsmouth, there are even oblique references to slavery.
(sorry, previous comment was starting to turn into an essay!)

  13. Tracy - I've only read it once. But I've seen a few people re-reading it lately which is nice!

Care - I hope you get to some of these. They're great books!
