My Series in Progress (or On Bookshelf)

I am currently reading so many series that I've officially lost track. Even though they are listed on LibraryThing, it's not in a format that works in my brain and they include a lot of books that aren't really what I think of as in a series. Consequently, I'm composing this list of Series in Progress and I think I'll make it a tab on the top of the blog so that I can keep it current. I'm including any series that I'm not finished with (or haven't started yet) and any that I'm caught up with but should be continuing in the future.

(Warning: Prepare to be shocked. There are 36 (!) series listed, only six of which I am caught up with. I even left off a couple that I own one book of but am not sure I will ever start.)

Now I all of a sudden want to make a list of authors that I'm working through. My TBR is going to explode! In the meantime, I think I might have found a goal to add for this year -- catch up with more of these series.

Organize, read, repeat,
K

  1. Ohmigosh, I completely know what you mean! I hope not to even look at my series in progress because it would be so intimidating! Also, sometimes I read one book in a series and don't want to read the rest of the series, so does that REALLY count as being in the middle of a series?

I didn't know that LibraryThing had that function - how cool!

    1. I have a couple on here that I haven't started yet but I will remove them if I read the first book (or two) and decide I don't want to continue. I don't think it counts if you don't intend to read any more of the series. I'm definitely moving some of those first books (and final ones) up in my reading queue too so that I can clear up this list a bit!

  2. Ha, that is just a few. :) The only series on that list that I would consider myself officially reading is the Flavia de Luce series. In addition I'm reading the Ellie Quin series, Old Man's War series (which I guess is continuing giving the new episodes that are coming out), The Gamache series by Louise Penny, Sanderson's Stormlight Archive, the Star Trek Vanguard series, Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century. That's what I can think of off the top of the head.

    1. My husband has the Cherie Priest books and I might decide to read them at some point but I decided not to include it here since it's not technically on my shelves. Kind of cheating but I just couldn't make this list any longer! :)

    1. I didn't know it was this many until I made this list. I'm not sure it was the best idea. ;)

  4. Wow! What a great idea!! I know that I'm in the middle of sooooo many series, but I have no idea where or how much I have left. I may have to consider doing this myself!

    1. It's actually pretty helpful. Some of these series, I didn't even know what book they were currently on. And luckily a few of these are trilogies and finished series so once I catch up, they can go off the list. Although I like saving books to have one left, I also like things being a bit neater than this. :)

  5. I absolutely love series--those that build over time and show evolution of character and story, and those that simply have characters who have become old friends that I like to visit.

I love your way of organizing your authors/books/series.

We don't have too many in common, though I need to revisit the Amelia Peabody series. I was reading them at a good clip, and then got side-tracked and haven't read one in awhile. Amelia is definitely an old friend!

I've heard great things about Maisie Dobbs, and hope to start on that series this year.

    1. I obviously love series too. :) There are more that I would love to start too but I need to close some of these out first!

  6. you really really weren't kidding about "a few."

before i got to the super long list i thought to myself that this would be a good idea to do on my own blog - but damn, i don't have nearly as many to keep track of!

    1. You're lucky! I'm just glad that I can finish off some of these with a single read. It'll feel good to make this list shorter. :)

  7. Hahaha - love this! People who read series books are my kind of people.

I really enjoyed Donnelly's Rose series - they were just romance-y enough without feeling skeezy, if you know what I mean.

I've ready Wicked and loved it, and then was really disappointed in Son of a Witch, so pretty much abandoned that one.

Amelia Peabody did not work for me - it took me forever to get through the first one.

You have a LOT on here that I want to start reading!

    1. I can't imagine what it would be like to avoid series. I love that feeling of stepping back into a world I already know.

I'm planning on starting the Rose series soon and Tif and I will be doing a group read of the Wicked books in the fall. I'm hoping that helps me get past Son of a Witch which I also had trouble with.

And hopefully nobody else makes one of these posts or my list will grow too!
