Kickoff: Moby Dick: A Whale of a Read-Along

I'm joining Adam of Roof Beam Reader for the next six weeks or so in a read-along of Herman Melville's Moby Dick. This is one of those books that is probably fated to sit on my shelves forever unless I join an event like this. I'm not sure if I'll be posting here along the way or just sharing my thoughts over on Adam's posts. But if you're in the mood to join up, there's definitely still time to get going. He's set us a pace of about 15 pages a day. I'm not sure what that is in nautical miles.

Taking the plunge,
K

  1. Clever bit about the nautical miles!! I've never understood how they relate to land miles.

And I have taken the plunge and joined up. Sounds like a good way to get through a challenging book.

    1. And why wouldn't they just call nautical miles something else, right?
I'm glad we're reading this together!

    1. LOL! I probably wouldn't have joined up if I hadn't already bought a copy a couple of years ago. I'm sure I'll be glad to have read it when I'm done though. (fingers crossed)

  3. And it has begun! ;) LOL @ Nautical miles... that'd be interesting to figure out. If pages were laid out end-to-end, how many pages would fit into a nautical mile? Hopefully not the whole book, or we'd be in trouble!

    1. I have to say that I'm quite happy that the chapters are so short though! That always helps it seem like a quicker read.

  4. Sounds fun! I shall never read Moby Dick again because I have at this point completely paid my Moby Dick dues, but I'm looking forward to everyone's posts. I will be interested to see what you make of it.

    1. I'm sure I'll feel the same about dues. I just can't imagine never reading it so better now than never!
