Summer Reading!

There are just a couple days left of school and then it's time to relax, go to our favorite family-friendly yoga class, and devour as many books as possible until September! I decided to choose my possible summer reads all at once this year so here they are.

The Devil's Workshop by Alex Grecian
The Boy Who Lost Fairyland by Catherynne M. Valente (planning on a whole series reread)
The Labyrinth of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers
A Matter of Magic by Patricia Wrede
Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon
Fire and Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
The Curious World of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber
The Mistaken Wife by Rose Melikan
Dodger by Terry Pratchett
Resorting to Murder, edited by Martin Edwards
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle (for The Estella Project)
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch
Envious Casca by Georgette Heyer
Lord Edgware Dies by Agatha Christie
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
The Martian by Andy Weir (for The Estella Project)
Angel With Two Faces by Nicola Upson
Elegy for Eddie by Jacqueline Winspear
The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
The Last Bookaneer by Matthew Pearl
S by Doug Dorst

I also have my 100 Chapter Books Project reads for the summer and I'm going to try and get to Emma for Roof Beam Reader's Austen in August. And I just noticed that I have no non-fiction on this shelf so I have to add one or two of those!

What are you looking forward to reading this summer?

Reading all the books,
K

    1. I haven't read it since high school (many, many years ago) so I am looking forward to it. And hubby just finished The Martian so it's finally my turn. :)

  3. Many good choices here! I thought S was really fun -- it'd be a great book to curl up on the couch with. I have no summer reading plans apart from the usual: Stay in the air-conditioning and read as often as possible.

  4. That is a fantastic shelf you have there. I ought to reread The Last Unicorn, it's been a long time...To Kill a Mockingbird too. And I've been sadly lacking in nonfiction reads this year. I think fall is going to be my time for that though.

    1. I've been doing better than my usual on non-fiction this year. I just need to keep it up until the end!

  5. What a great list. I've been kicking around the idea of re-reading Anansi Boys, of late. Actually of listening to it, I love the narrator of the audio version (Lenny Henry). I've also been wanting to read more Pratchett.

The Martian is a good choice, you'll definitely want to read it before the movie comes out.

    1. Maybe I'll double up a read/listen for Anansi Boys. This will be my first time through it. And yes, I really want to get to The Martian before too many more movie trailers come out. Right now I have only the vaguest idea of what it's about because I've avoided all reviews, etc.!

  6. What a great list! I've got Anansi Boys on my to-read list, too. And I really loved The Martian - I hope you enjoy it too! Resorting to Murder looks interesting, and I keep meaning to read a Patricia Wrede as well.

  7. Is The Last Unicorn the same as the movie from the early 80s? Elle has just discovered it and LOVES it. I haven't sat down and watched it with her yet but the music is pretty rockin (also cheesy). Didn't realize it was a book!

And The Crimson Petal and the White is one I keep forgetting that I want to read!

Has Z made his list yet??

    1. It is the same story! I watched the movie tons of times as a kid but nobody ever told me it was a book. :(
Z is being a bum about reading. I think I'm going to have to start doing forced minutes which I don't like doing because it makes reading a chore but he needs to read!

  8. Calpurnia Tate and Mockingbird!! Anansi Boys was good, but American Gods have my heart. I hope you enjoy all of your reads.

    1. Thanks! This is the awesome Calpurnia Tate sequel so I'm very, very excited to revisit those characters!
And I may need to do an American Gods reread this fall. I haven't read my "preferred text" edition yet!

  9. The Crimson Petal and the White is amazing!

    1. I just passed half-way on it. I decided to start with it but I've snuck in a couple of other reads at the same time. ;)

  10. I just re-read To Kill A Mockingbird recently and can definitely say that I appreciated it so much more the second time around. I can't wait to read Go Set A Watchman!

So many other great books on this list. I have the first in Valente's series and am tempted to read these ones with my kids.

    1. I think I'll appreciate it much more as an adult too (and without having to think about things like themes and setting and characters!).
