#AMonthofFaves : Dec 7 - Most Memorable Read This Year

Today's A Month of Faves topic is a fun one --
Mon. | Dec. 7 – The Most Unique or Most Memorable Book(s) Read This Year – not necessarily your favorite book because it could be memorable for how bad or how much you liked or disliked the characters.
At first nothing came to mind but then I started looking back through my spreadsheet for the year and one book jumped out as both unique and quite memorable.

I originally wrote this short mention of this French novella --
Wow. This novella about a shop run by a French family that sells methods for committing suicide blew my mind and broke my heart. Black humor followed by utter blackness. I loved it but the ending turned that love to hate in less than a handful of words. This is one book where you just can't read the end first. It would taint your entire reading experience. And now everyone wants to pick it up and read those words, right? But I promise you, you will ruin everything. Just go find this one and read it (or don't if you don't want your heart broken into a million pieces).
I can't remember if I kept my copy or not but I almost want to read it again now, knowing what is coming. But it's also so horrifying and dark that I don't want to read it ever again.

What was your most memorable read of the year?

Reliving a nightmare,
K

  1. Wow, this does sound like it imprinted itself on your brain in quite a striking way. I don't have anything to match that from this year! Maybe I would pick The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth for its emotional impact.

You put your books on a spreadsheet?? No wonder you're so organized!

    1. Oh yes, I have a spreadsheet that gets more complicated every year. Now I record languages, years, numbers of non-fiction, and even why I chose a book if it's for a project or event. I find it most useful when I want to know how long it has been since I read something last!

  7. I loved The Suicide Shop! Except for the ending, that kinda sucked.

    1. You know, there's a French film version of it but I'm terrified to watch it. ;)

    2. Have a glass of wine and do it! See how that goes! (said Jenny, sipping her glass of wine as she watches the back half of Jessica Jones)
