Thankfully Ending 2016

Well, this has been a year. I started it by reading a book from a favorite series and ended it with Elie Wiesel's Night. I was very sporadic with my blogging and, honestly, don't know if 2017 is going to be much better. I've thought more than once that perhaps my heart isn't in this anymore but the truth is that my heart isn't in much of anything at the moment so I'm going to keep this going until I'm sure one way or the other. There may be lulls, there may be changes, but I sincerely hope that it also remains a place that brings joy to me and to you.

Even with a reading break in November, I managed to finish 128 books this year with only one DNF. I had a goal that my reading and rereading would include 80 of my own books and I will hopefully be finishing my 77th before midnight tonight. I call that a success. Many thanks to Andi for creating the Read My Own Damn Books challenge. It was the perfect motivator.

I'm not feeling up to compiling statistics right now as reading has necessarily become more of a haven lately and I need to keep a feeling of lightness around it. I do have some lovely review books that I read this past month that I will share with you in the coming weeks and I have some loose goals around what I will be choosing to read in 2017 but nothing concrete. I do know that I want to limit the numbers of challenges and events that I participate in, sticking to those that are stress-free and joyful (Readathon and RIP Forever!).

I hope that we all will have plenty of moments of peace and joy in the new year. I thank each and every one of you for being my friends and reading companions.

With love,
K

  2. Happy new year, Kristen! I have missed you :-) But I understand your heart not being in a lot of things at this time.

I am also so impressed by your TBR reading! I, er, read FOUR books off my TBR pile...

    1. It was definitely nice to make good use of my own books this year! Now if I could only stop buying new ones and actually shrink my TBR piles ...

  3. I'll be here no matter how infrequently or frequently you post. I hope 2017 ends up being better than we all imagine.

    1. Yes! I need to write a post about this ASAP actually as we're going to be part of a much larger Discworld event this year!

    1. I know! Even though I read all of these, I kept buying and barely made a dent in the actual number. It didn't get bigger but I think it only went down by about a dozen.

  6. Happy New Year, Kristen! I sympathize with how you feel about blogging. But, like I always say, blogging should be about having fun. So if you're having fun, that's all that matters.

I'm impressed by the number of books you read!

    1. Graphic novels and doubling up with paper and audiobooks definitely helps get those numbers up! And I'm starting to find the fun again. :)
