With one third of the year gone, I am doing fantastic so far! The only problem is that I'm still acquiring new books so my TBR shelves aren't clearing off very much. I need to really limit my purchasing to only essential new books (like the new Neil Gaiman non-fiction collection, another Jackaby novel, and the next Flavia De Luce mystery). Still, it feels nice to be making progress and to be revisiting so many favorites that live in my house permanently. The only negative to this challenge is that I'm having to find room on my shelves for these new books that I'm keeping and I'm totally out of space!
How are you doing on reading your own books? Have you been inspired to join this challenge recently?
Making sure my books aren't just decor,

Looks like you're doing great! I've been reading a lot of my own books too, but buying so many that I don't think the shelves are really clearing off much either :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess it would be a lot worse if we were still buying but not reading ... ;)
DeleteHowls Moving Castle!! I need to reread that too.
ReplyDeleteIt was my first time doing it on audio and it was really fun!
DeleteYou are doing AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! This has really helped me focus and make better choices.
DeleteThere's a Neil Gaiman non-fiction collection coming out???
ReplyDeleteBut in other news, you're kicking major butt! Well done!
Books that must not be missed, right? ;)
DeleteYou are such an inspiration! Maybe once I finish reading all the books I have checked out from my university library, I can transition to reading at least a FEW of my own damn books. There's a ton of nonfiction on my shelves that I haven't yet gotten to, and I have no excuse. :p
ReplyDeleteI've tried to stick with only audiobooks from the library for my walks. If I start requesting regular books, it will all go downhill quickly!
DeleteOooh, I love that you set a number before the challenge. I didn't, and I think it might have pushed me a little harder. For me six out of 10 were my own books this month. I've also continued to purchase new books, annoying enough (ha). On the bright side, several of the books I bought this year, I've already read, which is big change from the past!
ReplyDeleteYes! This is a big change for me too. Three of these were ones that I bought this month. Usually that means that they then go to my stacks and sit forever but this time I got straight to reading them. It was quite a nice change to read them while I was still excited about them. Sometimes I completely lose interest before I ever get to a book I've bought.
