Today is the day! It's time to start celebrating the lives of two of the best fantasy/sci-fi authors ever -- Diana Wynne Jones and Terry Pratchett. It's time to get our revenge on the cruel month that took them from us and use it as a time to escape into the beautiful, funny, and unique worlds they both created.
A reminder: if you want to participate in either of the group reads, here are the dates we plan to finish up reading each book and chat about them:
The Wee Free Men - Saturday, 9 March
Howl's Moving Castle - Saturday, 23 March
These are the books I've chosen for the month. I'll admit that I cheated a bit and started listening to House of Many Ways yesterday. Here's a great Publisher's Weekly interview with DWJ about that book from 2008. I've also got the audiobook of Enchanted Glass and am on the waiting list for a couple of the Pratchett audiobooks. That way, I can easily get through these ten books this month. And if I have more time? Well, I always have more books!
Which books are you planning on reading this month? Share in the comments or on social media, remembering to use the #MarchMagics or #DWJMarch hashtags so that we can find the posts!
Off to High Norland,

Yay! I got hold of an audiobook of Wee Free Men and it is so fun. The voices are great.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to do WFM on audiobook because I love it but the waitlist was 7-8 weeks out through my library. I should have planned sooner. :(
DeleteBut I'm glad you got it and are enjoying it!
I'll be posting a link to my review of Wee Free Men but I'm concentrating on the third Tiffany Aching book and posting a review of it on the anniversary of STP's passing. Ditto with my reread of Howl's Moving Castle!
ReplyDeleteHowever, I haven't decided which other DWJ book I'll be reading this month, maybe Eight Days of Luke; and I have it in mind to try Pratchett's The Colour of Magic though I understand that wasn't one of his best.
I haven't read Eight Days of Luke in ages. Maybe I'll try to squeeze that one in!
DeleteAnd a lot of people don't like CoM but I did. I started with it and kept going through almost 20 more Discworld books so far so it couldn't have been that bad, right? ;)
Yesss! I'm so excited! I love your stack. :D
ReplyDeleteI've got my DWJ's lined up (HMC, Hexwood, Fire and Hemlock, and Reflections!) and I'm waiting on a library trip to get Wee Free Men. I have a lot of other things I need to read this month but if I have time I mayyy revisit Guards! Guards! or Mort... :D
Hopefully I'll get a post up once I get to the library! <3
What a lovely list you have too! I have Hexwood here but it would be the first time for that one for me and I really want to just enjoy the books I know and love this month. I'll probably get to it in the summer.
DeleteWooooooooo DWJ tiiiiiime! I want to reread Hexwood this month, and maybe A Tale of Time City, as those are two of Diana Wynne Jones's books that have yet to click in for me. Maybe this month is the time!
ReplyDeleteIt actually IS the time because our extra love for Diana builds up this month and makes everything she ever touched gold. <3
DeleteI really need to find my copy of Howl's Moving Castle! I want my daughter to read it, and I want to finally re-read it with her!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do! Sharing DWJ is so fun. :)
DeleteOkay, I have my goals: read Wild Robert, and write blog posts about Wee Free Men, Howl's Moving Castle, and the Miyazaki movie.
ReplyDelete(This is scary: I don't usually give myself blogging goals. So much pressure!)
Awesome! I look forward to reading the posts!
