I have been thinking about March Magics for the past month and just can't seem to settle on a theme or plan. Therefore, I am turning to you, my lovely readers with a couple of questions:
1. What are you hoping to get out of March Magics this year? Is community interaction important or do you just need a flimsy excuse to get to old and new Pratchett and DWJ favorites?
2. Do you have the will/time for read-alongs this year? What about a watch-along of Earwig and the Witch? Does anyone else even have HBOMax?
3. Do we need a theme/graphic or is the hashtag enough to bring us together?
Please let me know your thoughts in a comment or find me on Twitter or Instagram if you want to chat!
1. I love both of those things! (This is no help. Sorry.) I'm feeling the need for interaction -- it's been a long year.
ReplyDelete2. I'd love to watch Earwig and the Witch, but whether I *can* is another question. Maybe?
I like graphics and I am very very bad at hashtags. Sometimes I remember to use them on FB, and I dislike and avoid Twitter more all the time.
I might feel like reading Power of Three together?
Okay, between your quick answer and bahnree's (on Twitter), I had a burst of inspiration and came up with a theme and just made a graphic! Now to think about readalongs (Power of Three is a definite option because it coincidentally fits with the theme), bingo cards, and such. Thank you so much for giving me a push into excitement about this event!
DeleteHooray!!
Deleteyay, thanks Jean and Kristen!
DeleteI designated March as Reading the Theatre month on my blog but I can think of Wyrd Sisters as a crossover read. It's my favorite Shakespeare take-off novel, bar none. There are theatrical strains in DWJ (the puppets in Magicians of Caprona, the Harlequin play in Fire and Hemlock) but I can't think of a book with a major theatrical focus. Anyway, I will look forward to your announcement!
I still haven't gotten to Wyrd Sisters but I bet it's great! The other DWJ I would consider slightly theatrical is Dark Lord of Derkholm because they are all play-acting.
DeleteVery true! I had forgotten about that. Wyrd Sisters is a fantastic parody of Shakespeare, so jam for English majors.
DeleteI do mostly use it as an excuse to read DWJ and Pratchett. XD I love graphics and seeing the posts! March is going to be busy for me, and my internet situation is less than ideal, so I don't know how active I'll be with blogs and such, but I've been storing up my last two unread DWJs, a Pratchett or two, and want to reread the Magid duology... I'll be curious to see what you and others get up to! 💚
ReplyDeleteThe books are what matters and it sounds like you are going to be set! I'll have an actual announcement post up probably this weekend. :)
Delete1. What are you hoping to get out of March Magics this year?
ReplyDeleteCommunity interaction is indeed important but that flimsy excuse is uppermost! I hope to read at least one, but hopefully more, title by both DWJ and Pterry in amongst other themed events for this month.
2. What about a watch-along of Earwig and the Witch?
I don't subscribe to HBO (hey, we've only just got Netflix!) but the trailer looks good. Earwig is one of the two or so DWJ titles I've yet to read but I'm doing a moratorium on books during this UK lockdown (apart from The Complete Orsinia by UKLG, purchased with a gift token).
3. Do we need a theme/graphic or is the hashtag enough to bring us together?
The hashtags are great for social media, but I do like a graphic meme: still, last year's DIY one would do fine at a pinch! What about something topical, about staying home, or isolating, or an external menace for example? I think that might cover many themes in the two authors' oeuvre!
I've just posted the official announcement, including a graphic and theme that is more cheerful than your suggestions. ;)
DeleteAnd I honestly use it mostly for the flimsy excuse as well even though I'm the host.
I look forward to seeing what you choose to read this year!
