The Book List Meme: Three Fictional Worlds

Three Fictional Worlds I Would Like To Hang Out In

1. Wonderland (from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll) - Singing flowers, borogroves and momeraths?  I would love to see them!  I might even attend a tea party or two while I'm there.

2. The Series Worlds (from The Chronicles of Chrestomanci by Diana Wynne Jones) - I love the idea of average worlds where magic is just taken for granted and used for both good and evil but mostly just for neutral uses.  There's also an incredible variety between the worlds and if you were able to travel between them, it would be amazing.

3. The Hundred Acre Wood (from Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne) - Doesn't this seem like the perfect place for reading, quiet walks and a pot of honey?

And yes, Hogwarts was a definite runner-up!

Drifting away to an imaginary place,
K

  1. I find it interesting that so many people who have completed this meme this week choose fictional worlds from children's books. (I did the same with Anne of Green Gable's Prince Edward Island and Hogwart's.)

  2. What a delightful question! Although I'm not sure I'd be quite brave enough to go to Wonderland (not confident that I'd have the same insight as Alice to stand up at the crucial moment and say "You're nothing but a pack of cards!), the Series Worlds and Hundred Acre Wood are definitely stellar destinations. I'd probably have to add Narnia, as well as Susanna Clarke's marvelous version of Victorian England.

  3. First time posting here and I'm so enjoying your blog, Kristen and of course Z! I've often pondered my favorite worlds and this is my favorite three. 1)Middle Earth, esp. the kingdom of Galadriel-Lothlorien.
2)Neverland-of course have to be there with my name being Wendy and it's such a beautifully complex land and third; Avalon. I've always loved Arthurian lore and fell in love with the book, "Mists of Avalon". Thank you for having such a wonderful blog and this very fun MeMe.

  4. Love your choice of the 100 Acre Wood!!! I picked Narnia, Hogwarts and where Anne of Green Gables lives. (But I didn't write a post.)

  5. Hogwarts only made the runner-up?!? I'm a bit disappointed there!! :)

No really . . . I haven't heard of the The Chronicles of Chrestomanci (at least I don't think I have). You've got me intrigued and wondering if I should check it out!

  6. Bookshelf - I do too. I wonder if it's due to the pleasantness of the worlds or of the feelings we have from experiencing them when we were children.

Solsticia - It is indeed strange that I would choose Wonderland since one of my lifelong recurring nightmares is White Rabbit related! I would like to think that I know enough about the land to avoid certain people and places though. :) (And I thought of Clarke's world too when I was choosing!)

Catpriestess - Thank you for the compliments! I would definitely want to visit the elf-realms as well but thought of all of the less-desireable parts of Middle Earth too. Neverland would be wonderful!

Jenners - I was trying to think of somewhere peaceful and I thought that the Wood fit the bill - even with the Heffalumps and Woozles!

Tif - Haha! Have you read any Diana Wynne-Jones? I think you would LOVE her stuff. Start with The Chronicles of Chrestomanci Volume 1 or Howl's Moving Castle.

  7. I have not read any! I will add them to my list though! In fact, I'm going to attempt to convince the husband that I need a trip to the bookstore alone tomorrow . . . :)

  8. I love your answers, Kristen! I had not thought at all of The Hundred Acre Woods. That would be a good reading spot! Right after a nice walk and a picnic!

  9. Tif - I can't wait to hear what you think of her books!

Rebecca - Isn't it sad that my dream fictional world is just really some peace and quiet? ;)
