Floating Into the RIP VIII Season

RIP VIII, y'all! I am so excited to start my perilous reading. As with every year of this challenge, I have a long list of books I plan to read. I won't bother choosing a participation level because I'll be overdoing it (as usual).

First are the Read-Alongs ...

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (hosted by The Estella Society, through Sept. and Oct.)
Revenge by Yoko Ogawa (reading with Nat of In Spring the Dawn)
The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare (for 100 Top Chapter Books project, discussion on Oct. 15 at The Estella Society)
The Witches by Roald Dahl (for 100 Top Chapter Books project, discussion on Oct. 31 at The Estella Society)

Next are the Rereads ...

Coraline by Neil Gaiman
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
The Time of the Ghost by Diana Wynne Jones

And finally are the New Reads ...

The Devil's Gentleman: Privilege, Poison, and the Trial That Ushered in the Twentieth Century by Harold Schechter (non-fiction)
The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas
Greenwitch by Susan Cooper
The Monk by Matthew Lewis
The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Oxford Book of Victorian Ghost Stories (short stories)
Picture the Dead by Adele Griffin and Lisa Brown
The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective by Kate Summerscale
Under My Hat (short stories)
Unnatural Creatures (short stories)
Watcher in the Shadows by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Which Witch? by Eva Ibbotson

I have a pretty Pinterest board for these books if you want to see all of the covers and a bit of the reasoning behind why I chose them. I'll be reading them, of course, all through September and October, including during the read-a-thon on October 12th!

If anyone is interested in joining me for any of these books, drop me a line. And if you need some great recommendations, check out my other fancy Pinterest board of highlights from past RIP years. Or if you have your own list going, which books are you most looking forward to reading this fall?

Reveling in it all,
K

  1. Ohhh I have reread the Thirteenth Tale 3 times! and this year I have Setterfields new book Bellman and Black (advanced copy) so I can't wait!
I wasn't fond of the Night Circus, but I am in the minority there but I did enjoy The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher! Enjoy all your books!

    1. This will only be my second read of The Thirteenth Tale and it's been since it first came out so I bet it's going to be able to surprise me again. I remember more of how I felt when I was reading it than actual details! And I added it because I have already finished B&B. ;)

  2. Fun lists--I love this time of year and have been looking forward to this for weeks now. Part of the fun is just seeing what everyone else is reading! Looks like you have some great books lined up.

  3. Great list!!! I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on a at least a few of these!

I need to come up with my list. That is on my list of things to do this week. Books I'm considering are Jane Eyre, The Thirteenth Tale, Rebecca. Definitely reading The Shining (running a read-along for that one) as well as Doctor Sleep when it comes out next month. And, I am seriously considering The Historian read-along as well. So many great books to choose from!!

    1. Thank you! I was just sitting there thinking about pulling all of these books from all over my house and I got lazy and made the Pinterest board instead. ;) And, as for sticking to my list, I think I have two new releases that I might need to add in already ... oh well!

    1. That's the biggest complement I could get. Thanks! :) And I think it might be my first time reading The Witches too even though I've seen the movie. I'll probably see if Z wants to read it with me!

    1. I know! I have had an ARC that I won from another blogger for a long time but I think the hype just scared me off. Now I'm ready though. :)

  9. The Pinterest board is a lovely idea. And I echo Kailaina in regards to The Night Circus! I hope after our hype you enjoy it. I'm currently listening to the audio version of it as a re-read. Great stuff!

I'm looking forward to watching Coraline as part of my Peril on the Screen activities. It has become one of my annual treats.

Great to have you back with us again!

And, do you know, I haven't read Coraline again since I first read it before the movie came out. I'm really excited to go back to it!
