Today's prompt is Favorite Quotes and I feel like, though DWJ has some of the best descriptions of people ever (I mean, we all know *exactly* what she means when she calls a certain character a "slitherer-outer"!), Pratchett's books are almost entirely quotable. (That just put a funny picture into my head of a group of high school students quoting Pratchett Monty-Python-style.) I posted a lot of great quotes during the Pratchett Twitter Party on Saturday and here are a couple of my favorites --
Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one. -Foreword to The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Fantasy
Sometimes if you wanted to go to the ball you had to be your own fairy godmother. -Unseen Academicals
... inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened. -Moving Pictures
There are some laws, though, that are coded into the very nature of the universe, and one is: There Is Never Enough Shelf Space. -The Science of Discworld II: The Globe
What are your favorite DWJ or Pratchett quotes?
Enjoying the wit and wisdom,
K
Terry Pratchett is SO quotable! I always forget to write down my favorite bits while reading though. I guess I'm too busy laughing.
ReplyDeleteI definitely used some online quote databases to get these. If I wrote down every good line in a Pratchett novel, I wouldn't have time to read!
