#DWJMarch: Book Highlight -- Black Maria (Aunt Maria)

Black Maria (Aunt Maria)

Mig and Chris go with their mother to visit their Aunt Maria (mar-EYE-ah) in a small seaside town after the accidental death of their father. Many things seem strange here, from the subservient men to the missing children to the absolute control over her fellow citizens that Maria seems to have. It's up to Mig (after Chris runs afoul of Aunt Maria) to figure out what is going on and to reestablish a natural balance in the town.

  1. Now that I'm in the same city as my copy of this book again, I need to reread it more! My memories of it are always a bit hazy.

    1. Mine finally solidified up after the last time I read this one. I think it's actually one of my favorites too!

  2. Today was the 3 year anniversary of our beloved Diana Wynne Jones' death.

    1. I know. I tried not to think about it too much. :(

    2. I can't forget it, because my uncle's death anniversary is exactly a week before: same year, same month. Two beautiful and wonderful human beings that marked my life in really positive ways.
