Announcing #MarchMagics / #DWJMarch 2020

As we quickly approach the middle of February, I remembered that I need to actually launch our favorite event of the year, that it doesn't just magically begin in March. So, without further ado, this year's March Magics (formerly DWJ March), celebrating the books and lives of Terry Pratchett and Diana Wynne Jones--two of the *best* all-ages fantasy authors EVER--will be a DIY event!

As I am a bit scattered, stressed, demoralized, and a host of other not-fun emotions at the moment, and since I know some of you are feeling the same, I wanted to continue with last year's theme and have this event really be about the joy you find while you spend time with these two authors. Simply pick up your absolute favorites, dive into them, and lose yourself for a few hours. Afterwards, share that love with others. If you want to host a readalong or a giveaway, DO IT! If you want to write a blog post, share on social media, or even read with your kids--PERFECT! If you want to pick up that last book you have been saving with a heavy heart, this is the time.

Have you already been thinking about March Magics? Share your plans below!

Please link any posts, events, etc. below that you create/organize before March 1 and then I'll have another post for sharing during the month. (And remember to use the hashtags!)

  1. Nice idea for a theme. I'm stressed to but what better reason to read our favorite authors? I'll have to ponder my reduced shelves and see what I could read. I passed on a lot of my DWJ collection to my nephew but I kept my very favorites.

    1. I'm really hoping that the built in stress-relief will be beneficial to all those participating. :)

  2. Just slightly unrelated: My friend Stephanie and I managed to snag tickets to see Howl's Moving Castle in theatre on Feb 22nd, and I just know that's going to spur me to want to reread all the Howl books again!

    1. Very cool! What I love the most is that they are so different that you can go read the book immediately and not feel like you're retreading the same ground.

  3. I love the idea of a DIY event to give yourself a break. A lot of us are stressed right now, and why not make it easy? Best wishes to you, and hopes for better days ahead.

I hadn't started thinking about it yet, so I'll have to get started! I could really use some nice relaxing March Magic.

    1. Easy was essential right now. Today I'm going to the bookstore and will look through the Pratchett and grab a couple that I haven't read before or don't own and then I'm definitely doing Hexwood (as a sad almost-last first read) but I don't know where I'll go from there with DWJ. It's making me feel happier just having this planning to do!

    2. I reread Hexwood before I left it behind with my sister. It was not a favorite at first but it's grown on me. Be warned, you will definitely need to read it at least twice to understand it!

    3. I love Hexwood, but it is one of the strangest and hardest to understand of DWJ's books. I'm still trying to figure out some of the details...plan on reading it more than once! :)

    4. I will definitely plan for this to be my FIRST read of Hexwood. :)

  5. Hug hug hug! I am so excited for this and TRULY this year I am going to do a good job of reading DWJ books and posting about them during March. (Why are we in such a dark time? I hate it. I want everyone I love to be happy.)

    1. I hate it too. Maybe this can be the start of the light coming back in. :)

  6. I'm going to do ... something. I like the idea of browsing the library shelves and picking the first DWJ or Pratchett that pops out at me. That sounds about ambitious enough for me!
