#DWJMarch: Favorite World

Today's prompt is one of the most difficult -- Favorite DWJ World. I really just want to say "ALL OF THEM!!" but I suppose there's one or two that wouldn't be as pleasant to be in.

If I was to be in one of the Chrestomanci parallel worlds, I would want it to be one with magic, of course. But not all of them are as pleasant as the others so I will pass on that -- unless I could actually live in Chrestomanci Castle!

The world of The Game is a fascinating one, moving through myths, but it also seems that there's just as much chance for something terrible to happen as something amazing.

I certainly don't want to live in the worlds of The Homeward Bounders where I would be a pawn in a game played by heartless beings.

I think I would, therefore, choose the fantasy world of which Derkholm is part, especially if I got to go to the university! There seems to be a freedom of how magic is used and when. I also like the wealth of species and characters that live there. I know that it's meant to represent a world of fantasy tropes but I think that it is so much more.

If I had to have a second choice, it would likely be Time City. To be able to study everything that has ever happened is irresistible, even more so to be able to travel to any time simply to observe.

Which world would you choose?

  1. I really love that many of DWJ's worlds are just our regular world with added magic and supernatural beings. However, I do often find myself most drawn to the more fantastical and clearly separate worlds. I'd love to visit the world of the Dalemark Quartet, but I don't think I'd want to live there... too much war and terrorist activity! (Plus I've never been able to completely get my head around its complicated geography and political situation.)

I guess my all time favourite world would have to be Ingary/Rashpuht/High Norland. I love the idea of living somewhere where fairytale tropes really exist. We live near the Welsh border and I have often wondered exactly how Howl figured out how to get into Ingary. I would love to follow in his footsteps and check it out sometime. :)

    1. Ingary, etc. is a wonderful choice, especially because pastries seem to be so good and easy to come by there. ;)

  2. Is it cheating to say I've always thought of everywhere as being part of Chrestomanci's multiverse, and so the best place is that in-between place that lets you (well, if you're powerful enough) jump to all the other places?

    1. Interesting! In that case, the in-between place would be awesome because everything would be a possibility.

  3. And then there's the infinity loop of the Magid multiverse! I have been horrible the last few days and I'll be gone all day today but I'll try to post on this when I get back.

    1. Yes! Again, good and bad. I'm starting to think that a fully perfect, magical, fun world was a very boring idea for Diana.

  4. Having only read a few, the one that stands out to me is Howl's world ... having a door that opens on to different worlds with the simple turn of a switch. Being in a transient part of life right now, it is so fitting for me!

    1. It would be fun to pick your four places that would be linked to the door, wouldn't it? :)

  5. I agree with you -- Derkholm's the one. The university is the one. I got so jealous of The Year of the Griffin when all the students went to the library and got piles and piles of amazing magic books to read.

    1. I'm glad you agree. I thought about this one for a while and I just couldn't think of anything better than the university!
